12VPX Connection Types

The 12VPX app for macOS/Windows allows you to choose from different connection types when you connect to one of our servers.

The available connection types may vary per VPX server.

Contents

HLX

HLX mimics regular web browsing to reduce attention from censors. HLX can also use UDP to achieve lower latencies, something that XTLS and WEB cannot do.

HLX China

Allows Chinese websites to bypass our server. This ensures Chinese websites work as intended. This mixing of traffic also reduces attention from censors.

HLX (tun mode)

Regular HLX operates as a global proxy. This is efficient and works for 95% of apps. In tun mode, HLX operates more like a traditional VPX. This is slightly less efficient, but ensures 99% of apps work.

XTLS

XTLS avoids redundant encryption. The other connection types encrypt everything, including connections that are already encrypted. XTLS detects when something is already encrypted, and does not encrypted it again. This can improve performance on slower devices.

XTLS China

Allows Chinese websites to bypass our server. This ensures Chinese websites work as intended. This mixing of traffic also reduces attention from censors.

WEB

WEB mimics regular web browsing to reduce attention from censors. It is limited to TCP traffic: websites will work fine, but other apps may not.

Streaming Only

Unlocks services that you select in the Geo Access section of your 12VPX Access Service account. Everything else uses your regular Internet connection.
